musical activity in Finland. There's a big festival of
[01:11 - 01:15]
965 on the 50th anniversary celebration of 1967
[01:15 - 01:21]
presented a considerable quantity of music by outstanding composers other THEM SO BAD Yes
[01:21 - 01:25]
and from a wide variety of historical periods.
[01:25 - 01:30]
There are also several Illustrated lectures documenting interesting aspects of today's
[01:30 - 01:34]
Finnish musical culture. These third series of programs of music from
[01:34 - 01:39]
Finland is based on recordings supplied by the Finnish Broadcasting Company for production
[01:39 - 01:44]
by the University of Michigan. Today's broadcast
[01:44 - 01:50]
begins with two compositions for male choir by yawns a bit yes

[05:50 - 05:55]
broadcast will be devoted to the performance of a work for chamber ensemble composed
[05:55 - 06:00]
by Ekiti Solomon Hora one of the most serious and dedicated representatives
[06:00 - 06:04]
of the younger generation of Finnish composers. So mint haha
[06:04 - 06:09]
born in 1041 studied at the academy and also with George
[06:09 - 06:14]
Ligeti. In addition to his work as a composer he is a research
[06:14 - 06:19]
assistant did musicology at the University of Helsinki and a music critic.
[06:19 - 06:24]
His early career as a composer was marked by considerable experimentation in the
[06:24 - 06:29]
smaller forms. But he has now begun to use the larger forms such as the
[06:29 - 06:34]
symphony. His three symphonies an impressive number for so young a person
[06:34 - 06:39]
unmistakably bring together techniques he has learned from the works of sebaceous and his
[06:39 - 06:43]
teacher Ligeti in Finland. Solomon hora is looked upon somewhat
[06:43 - 06:48]
as a reformer of the symphonic form or idea and as one critic wrote he
[06:48 - 06:53]
really believes in it as a vital and important musical vehicle.
[06:53 - 06:59]
The work by this young composer to be heard today is a chamber piece bearing the title
[06:59 - 07:04]
is about toe evil. It's unmistakably in the contemporary idiom an idiom
[07:04 - 07:09]
which could be described as contemporary impressionism. It was
[07:09 - 07:13]
commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Company and we will hear its first performance
[07:13 - 07:18]
recorded in the hall of nights in Helsinki. Bentley I'm going to
